Our daughter Iris (9 years old) came through in a mediumship reading with Beth Lynch.

The reading began with the words “school band” and “black combat boots.” This immediately felt like a reference to Iris’s big sister, Azalea. Azalea is in junior high band and plays many instruments, including violin, drums/percussion, piano, and she also sings in choir. Iris was a musician as well—she couldn’t wait to be in band and was often jealous of the opportunities her big sister had.

The black combat boots were another recent and meaningful reference. About a week prior, Azalea attended her first junior high school dance. She wanted to wear the black combat boots that all three of us have worn at different times. I’ve always had small feet, so my girls and I often share shoes. That day was especially emotional for me. I cried a lot, knowing Iris would never get to experience a school dance. I chose to put on a happy face, and those boots became part of that story.

The mention of the letter “D” and a grandfather figure felt like a reference to my Grandfather Donald, or possibly my Uncle Dave—both of whom have passed beyond the veil. The symbols of motorcycles and cars also aligned strongly with them.

Rainbows are one of Iris’s most prominent signs. I see them everywhere, literally and figuratively. She loved everything rainbow, and it is also her namesake in Greek mythology—Iris is the Goddess of the Rainbow and the Messenger of the Gods.

Beth suggested I try “walking backwards,” which I am open to exploring.

Owls have not come through in a reading before, but they have long been a theme in our family, even before our daughters were born. My husband and I were seasonal wildlife biologists for approximately eight years, specializing in the Northern Spotted Owl, an endangered species here in the Pacific Northwest. When we camp or are outdoors at night, we often “hoot” for owls to see if we get a response. It’s a game we play together as a family.

Iris also mentioned my tattoo, which I had updated that very day with her full name and her birth and death dates. I spent the entire appointment talking with the tattoo artist about my beautiful Iris.

She referenced the fish, which I recently moved outside to a pond. One of the goldfish was won by Iris at the county fair.

Fist bumps were shared, and the entire experience was incredibly special.

Thank you, Beth
