Please join me, Kathy MacMannis, Rosanne Groover Norris, Patti May, and Irene Vouvalides in welcoming the three newest members of our team, Doryce Norwood, Jackie Rubio, and Irma Woodward!
They are started a new special-interest Affiliate of Helping Parents Heal, Helping HAND (Homicide, Abuse, Negligence, Domestic Violence). Doryce Norwood is not new; she has been a Board Member and our HPH - Counsel since our group became a non profit and has helped us enormously.
Doryce Norwood:
Almost 22 years ago, my daughter Wendy and 10-year-old granddaughter Haley were tragically killed by an impaired driver after celebrating my other daughter Ronni's birthday. Thankfully, my 8-year-old grandson Patrick and son-in-law Thomas survived the crash.
For two decades, I have volunteered with various organizations, including Mothers Against Drunk Drivers (MADD).
In March 2012, I met Elizabeth Boisson and Mark Ireland at a meeting with about 35 individuals. This gathering inspired the formation of Helping Parents Heal, a remarkable organization influenced by their children in spirit, Morgan, Chelsea, and Brandon.
I contributed a chapter to "Life to Afterlife: Helping Parents Heal, the Book," compiled by Elizabeth in 2021, and I have also served as a Board Member and pro bono legal counsel for Helping Parents Heal, Inc.
My daughters continue to give me signs that they are with me, often through finding pennies in unexpected places.
Doryce Norwood, Shining Light Parent & Grandparent
Jackie Rubio:
Jackie Rubio is a Shining Light Parent and compassionate advocate for healing after traumatic loss. She has been a member of Helping Parents Heal since August 2023, following the loss of her son, Devyne Anthony Briggs, whose life was taken in December 2022 from gun violence.
Through her own grief journey, Jackie has found purpose in supporting others as they navigate life after loss, offering empathy, presence, and hope. She lives on her family ranch in Eastern Oregon, where nature and animals are an important part of her healing.
Jackie is the mother of three surviving adult children and shares her days with a horse, a pig, and a dog, who bring comfort, grounding, and joy as she continues walking this path of love and remembrance.
Irma Woodward:
Irma Woodward became a shining light parent in May 2014, after her beloved son, Michael Neal Duncklee, was tragically murdered in Tucson, AZ.
From this devastating loss, Irma embarked on a profound healing journey, seeking peace and understanding amid grief. She has actively participated in two local support groups: Homicide Survivors, Inc. and Parents Of Murdered Children (POMC), finding strength and solace through community.
Irma's spiritual journey deepened through two Spiritual Illumination Journeys in Sedona, AZ, where she experienced powerful confirmation of Michael’s continued presence. During these sacred experiences, Michael came to her, reaffirming the unbreakable bond they share beyond this life.
Irma is dedicated to creating a safe space for healing and offering hope to others walking a similar path, while sharing her experiences, compassion, and spiritual insights to inspire hope, healing, connection, and reassurance that love endures beyond loss. @everyone
