Please join me in welcoming the newest member of our Affiliate Leader team, Kathy Fowlston! She will join Catherine Cecile Kaufmann in Toronto, and our beloved Teresa Cernigliaro will be stepping down. Please be sure to say hi to Kathy! We are grateful she is now a part of our family.

Hello, my name is Kathy Fowlston. I am a shining light parent whose daughter, Julia, transitioned suddenly at the age of 29 in June 2018. That changed my life in ways I never could have imagined. After attending a traditional grief group, I realized I needed a different kind of support—one that focused not just on surviving her tramsition , but on healing.
In 2020, I found Helping Parents Heal, and through that community I discovered comfort, understanding, and a sense of peace that had felt out of reach. Over time, I have continued my own healing journey, and now feel ready to support others.
Today, I am passionate about helping connect shining light parents in my local community by growing a supportive group and creating opportunities for meaningful, in-person connections rooted in compassion, hope, and shared understanding.
Catherine MacLean (Kaufman)
Catherine is Wolfgang Max's Mom. Max was an elite athlete, dancer, nutritionist: non-smoking, no steroids, no alcohol advocate. At 23 Max got ill suddenly, excruciating painful illness left him conscious but debilitated, left his body at 27, July 28, 2022. A radiant soul: inside and out, Max as a student leader worked tirelessly for the marginalized whether because of weight, gender, heritage or class. His Motto: Everyone counts Mom!
Catherine has been on a spiritual journey since a child, over 40 years. The death of two of her sibings: Karen and Peter accidently 18 years apart send her on spiritual exploration early. Astrology, cross religions, mysticism, Celtic Shaman , Ordained Spiritualist minister, feminine face of the Divine facilitator and a PLR trained by Dr. Brain Weiss She remembers numerous lives herself, including three with Max.
Max is the youngest in our family, she has two older daughters, a partner of 39 years Wolfgang, three grandchildren. They keep her moving.
