Jenny McCall, Jess Baca, and the Shining Light Parents of HPH - Phoenix East Valley!
From Our HPH - Phoenix East Valley Co-Affiliate Leader, Jenny McCall: Our little Helping Parents Heal East Valley group is growing. Some of us are only a few months into this journey, while others have been walking it for over 10 years. It doesn’t matter, because the love—and the grief—never truly goes away. Some of our children passed as infants, and others were grown adults in their 30s. The age doesn’t change the depth of a mother’s love.
Today was an emotional day for me. From the very beginning, I found myself in tears. I’m not sure where all the emotion came from, but what I do know is that everyone there understood. No one judged me or wondered why—I didn’t have to explain. Sometimes it’s just like that.
Maybe it was because so many moms I’ve seen this week are grieving in their own way, as their children head off to college. I can’t help but think how much I wish my son were going to college. Or maybe it was because the song he was listening to when he passed came on at dinner last night. I was in a public place and had to hold it in. That happens sometimes—the feelings build up, and then they come out when we least expect it.
Thank you to everyone who was there for me today. And to those who are walking this journey alone without a group, please know we are here whenever you’re ready. 💙
