I truly can’t begin to express the impact Helping Parents Heal has had on me since my son, Andrew (Drew) Bott, passed away. Our victims’ advocate at the hospital told me about the organization, and I’m thankful every day that she did.
Before Monday’s gallery reading with Maureen Hancock, I’d only had one other reading, and it wasn’t a good experience. I joined Monday’s event because I wanted to see what a real reading was like and get a feel for how it works. I almost didn’t join, but something kept pulling at me to “just do it.” You can imagine how surprised I was when Maureen called my name.
Drew was my youngest of two children. He was 23 when he passed on July 26, 2026. He was living in Littleton, Colorado, just outside Denver. We were visiting family in Ohio when we got the phone call at 2:30 a.m (ET).
Drew was a passenger in a car driven by one of his friends. His friend sideswiped another car, causing two other cars to collide. Then he fled the scene. One of the cars involved was a BMW S5, driven by Steven Simpson with his wife, Corynn. From what I understand, it’s considered a high-end car. When the friend fled, Steven chased after him and fired two shots from his BMW. One of those shots hit Andrew in the head.
Drew was the warmest, funniest, most sincere person. He could walk into a room and make it light up. He had an infectious smile, and he was so handsome. I know every mom says that about her son, but he really was handsome. Helping people and animals came naturally to him; he had such a tender heart.
He worked at a breakfast restaurant for three years. At his celebration of life, so many of his regulars came and told us how much he had meant to them, even in the little moments when they saw him. They ranged in age from 17 to 88. Needless to say, I’m incredibly proud of the man Drew became.
When Maureen began my reading, she knew his passing was recent. It is still so fresh. I knew right away that it was Drew because of the words Maureen used. They sounded just like things Drew would say, and I felt so close to him. Drew and I were almost the same person; he was part of my soul. We shared a special connection because our personalities and emotional sides were so similar. My daughter, on the other hand, is just like my husband.
There were nine validations that still leave me in awe. The first was Drew coming through with the words, “to teach her.” That meant so much to me because I’ve spent the past two months researching mediumship, pendulums, and reiki. Then he said that we’re going to help humanity together. Drew always wanted to help everyone. One time, a friend was up in the mountains at Keystone when his car broke down. Drew happened to call him, found out he was stranded, and drove two hours to help him.
Another validation was that we still had unanswered questions, especially about Drew’s phone. We do: the police haven’t returned it to us yet. When they called, they had trouble finding Mom or Dad’s number in his contacts because he had us saved as “BirthGiver” and “Roberto.” He had a large sense of humor.
The biggest validation came through in a phrase only a few people in our family know. Maureen was excited that I recognized a name she’d given me, and then she said, “T#T’s-up” (it rhymes with “pit”). I almost fell out of my chair. We’d say that when we win in Vegas.
A few other things stood out. I recently started journaling, and Maureen told me Drew was with me and helping me when I write. She knew Drew had passed quickly and even knew some of the circumstances around the accident. One of the last validations was that I’d be going out of the country in June. My daughter is getting married in Cabo, Mexico, in June. Drew was so excited to be part of the wedding and had been looking forward to seeing his sister walk down the aisle. He said he’d be there with us, having fun.
The most important thing about the reading was hearing that Drew is OK. Maureen also captured his personality so perfectly. I have a feeling that Maureen and Drew would have been friends here on Earth if their paths had crossed.
Maureen is very gifted, and I loved how comfortable she made me feel, especially with her sense of humor. I’m so thankful to Maureen and HPH for providing me the opportunity to hear from my son. It can’t fill the void Drew left, but it makes it a little softer.
