Gallery Reading by Mitch Ott at the 4th HPH Conference in Arizona on 8/27/26
As soon as Mitch told his story of addiction and recovery, I had a sense that Alex was near and might come through. I was the second person to get a reading in the 1:15 pm session.
Ott started by asking the couple behind me if they lost a son unexpectedly. They did, but the next question made it clear that it was Alex when Ott mentioned that the young man struggled with mental health and addiction. “He is quiet,” Ott said. “He was an addict and I sense and he died unexpectedly.” I raised my hand and said that sounds like my son. Ott then asked, “Are you writing a book?” I said, “yes.” He said, “your son says you keep putting it down and picking it up. He is ready for his chapter and wants you to complete it.”
Ott then asked, “Did you have mouth pain in the past two weeks?” ”Yes. I confirmed.” Alex knew about the pain and that it was taken care of before the conference. I confirmed I had an emergency root canal 2 weeks before the conference.
Ott then asked me if the numbers 512 or 113 could be important dates or numbers. Other than my birthday being in November, I couldn’t think of a connection. He said to write them down. Sometimes the numbers become clear later.
“Is there a B name?” Ott asked. I said, “yes, I am Brooke.”
“Is there an A name?” “Yes, his younger brother is Andrew.” Ott then said, “Younger brother is nothing like your son in spirit.” I confirmed this. Ott then relayed Alex’s message to Andrew, “Tell Andrew I am so proud of him,” and to me, “I am so pleased you are becoming best friends, especially since I can’t be there for him.”
Ott then told me Alex did not mean to die. He was actively trying to get better, but the drugs he used were so addictive and he made a mistake by purchasing from someone he did not know.
Also, Alex relayed through Ott that he is sorry for how he treated me in his relapse and asked for my forgiveness. Alex expressed that he had been hesitant to come through to me because he was afraid, I was still angry with him. Alex knew I was always there for him, even in the end when his father was gone and others left. I was his person and he always knew I loved him.
Alex said through Ott that he is “proud of me for doing the work I am doing with him” and that he wants me to “keep doing it and finish the book.”
Other note: At the very end, Ott said Alex was holding a baby. He asked if I had miscarried before Alex. I said “yes.” But no one other than me and his deceased father knew that. I was 6 to 8 weeks pregnant with Joe’s child in 1992 when I miscarried.
