To all parents and family members, I am very sorry about the death of your child’s earthly body. (I use those words because your children didn't really die – just their earth-suit did. That's an extremely important and comforting distinction.) I’m glad you are learning how to optimally heal and transform despite this seemingly senseless tragedy. Six keys to doing that are to remember the following about your children . . .
1. Over 99.9% of who and what your child IS (not was) continues in the next phase of life. This is true no matter how they passed on and at what age. See the collective evidence for life after death in these articles:
#1 Scientific Evidence That Bodily Death Is NOT the End of Life
#60 Clinical Evidence That Life Continues After Physical Death
#115 Firsthand Experience Evidence for Life After Death
Their love, energy, sense of humor, memories, personality, and much more continue in the next phase of forever. We know this is true through scientific study of postmaterial (the so-called 'deceased') people and clinical data from near-death experiences, life between lives sessions, and evidential medium reports.
3. They are happy, peaceful, loving, and enthusiastic – and want you to be the same. Read article #2 When a Child Changes Worlds to learn how you can do that.
4. You will see them when you pass on and can enjoy a different kind of relationship now. To learn more, see article #9 Visit With ‘Departed’ Loved Ones Now and #28 Afterlife Contacts. Then use the free Afterlife Contact Session audio program at Shop.
5. You can choose daily to transmute your grief into a spiritually transformative experience that powerfully improves your life and blesses others. To learn how, see article #82 Greater Reality Healing: A Higher-Energy Path After Big Changes / Losses and watch my videos at Greater Reality Healing.
6. You can heal yourself and create more meaning to your child's life by helping others. Also, consider the possibility that your and your child's souls / consciousness volunteered to take part in a meta-plan as described in article #119 Helping Yourself, Others, and Our World.
After a child transitions from earth, family members understandably feel much pain, sadness, anger, guilt, and other lower-energy emotions. No one could or should ever judge you about that. However, many people have learned to regularly use the above keys to feel more peace, joy, love, and gratitude. To learn more, see article #108 Higher Energies, Emotions, and Ways of Being.
You can do the same. It’s not easy and it usually doesn’t happen overnight, but it is possible via daily small steps using those keys and the following seven action steps . . .
- Attend online HPH meetings shown at Calendar and attend local Affiliate Groups. (If there's not an in-person group nearby, consider starting one.)
- Use Special Interest Groups that offer more focused service for fathers, siblings, parents of children who passed by suicide or substance abuse, and more.
- Contact one or more Caring Listeners who talk with you at no charge. These volunteers are not trained therapists; they have been through 'the dark night of the soul' and will share worked for them, recommended resources, and more.
- Benefit from my FREE articles, radio shows, newsletters, books, audio programs, and documentary film at SoulProof.com/Articles / Radio Shows / Shop)
- Watch Affiliate Leader / Caring Listen Interviews, read the Shining Light Parents Speak book, and benefit from other HPH Shining Light Resources
- Optimally heal, live, and help via the Greater Reality Healing, Living & Helping articles, videos, and meetings (article #131). This program does NOT replace HPH; however, it does help you with other types of big changes and challenges that appear to be losses.
- Lean on others and ask for help when you need it. Later, when you are doing better, you can help others by sharing your greatest gifts and following your inner callings.

This month's Q & A involves multiple questions that are commonly asked by parents . . .
Q: My biggest problems are anger at God and others who aren't here for me after my son’s passing.
A: Anger is often the #1 emotion that dads feel. There's so much anger that it's hard to know who it involves: God, others, yourself, and even the child who left this earthly plane. Many parents feel like they should have protected their child better and that they failed. However your anger serves no one. What's more, being stuck in that and other lower-energy emotions impairs sensing your son.
It's common for family and friends to not be there for parents after a child passes. They don't know what to say and death makes them face their own fears about passing on. Many parents in Helping Parents Heal (HPH) say they aren't close to most of their previous friends and some family members. Their new friends come from those they meet in HPH.
I recommend the following if you want to heal, positively transform, and connect more with you son:
- read the articles listed at the top of this article and #78 Why Did God Take My Loved One?
- read article #70 Holistic Breathing Technique, then use that free audio program
- attend Helping Father's Heal meetings so they can help you heal and work through your understandable feelings
- contact a Caring Listener who is a dad; I know all of them and they are stellar
- each evening, watch one of our interviews with Shining Light Parents to learn how they went through the dark night of the soul
Q: I am heartbroken and so sad. I understand what you teach and it has helped me get out of deep despair. But going forward seems to be unattainable.
A: Words, especially printed ones, can fall short during such deep despair. That's why it's important to take action steps: for example, use the technique above and meet with other dads and a Caring Listener.
Q: I don’t want to let go of my anger. I feel that, if I do, I am losing more of my son. Anger is one of the only things I have some control over.
A: I totally get it. Anger feels better than hopelessness. Search 'Map of Consciousness' by David Hawkins MD, PhD; then copy and post it where you'll see it often. The goal is to move up the energy scale whenever you can. In the beginning, it's a moment-by-moment process.
However, your anger is limiting you from sensing your son's living presence. He is in a realm characterized by peace, joy, love, gratitude, and enlightenment. Even though he's very near, it can be more difficult to perceive him if you're stuck in anger, hopelessness, and guilt.
Q: My son was going to look after my special needs daughter when I am gone. Now I am at ground zero with that, especially since friends and family have disappeared.
A: That's why it's time to identify which family members and friends really understand and are there for you. Every parent has a long list of things that won't happen since their child changed worlds. The ones who heal learned to focus on gratitude for their time together, knowing that they'll see each other again, and peace that there's a meaning behind what happened -- even if you can't fathom it now.
Q: Guess I am wallowing in grief. Thinking this couldn’t have happened. My only son and best friend gone. At such an early age.
A: It's very common to feel like this. You are still in shock. Take time to move through denial and anger -- the first stages of grieving. At the same time, take action steps as much as possible so you don't stay there.
Q: His son was born 2 months after he passed on and his girlfriend doesn't acknowledge the child's grandparents.
A: Yes, it's shocking how many parents get estranged from their grandchildren. Your son's girlfriend also went through a tremendous shock and loss. Everyone is grieving and some lash out to hurt others to try to feel better. Send cards, gifts, and some money if you can. Keep things as positive and supportive with the mother as much as possible. That situation sometimes improves over time.
Q: Just too many losses at once. Overwhelmed to say the least. I just miss him so much. It’s hard to go on.
A: I understand. That's why Helping Parents Heal exists: to help people in any stage of grief after a child of any age passes on by any means. In addition, I started the Greater Reality Healing, Living & Helping Program to help people deal with multiple challenges. I invite you to attend our free meetings and use all the free resources. (Click on the blue link to find out when and how.)
Let's start with this and see how you're doing in 60 days. Please do not hesitate to share any questions or concerns.
Let me know if you have any other questions or concerns after using the above approaches for 60 days. To you, and all parents, please feel free to email me at mark@soulproof.com if you have any big questions and/or tough challenges about this or any other topic.
