To all parents and family members, I am very sorry about the death of your child’s earthly body. (I use those words because your children didn't really die – just their earth-suit did. That's an extremely important and comforting distinction.) I’m glad you are learning how to optimally heal and transform despite this seemingly senseless tragedy. Six keys to doing that are to remember the following about your children . . .
1. Over 99.9% of who and what your child IS (not was) continues in the next phase of life. This is true no matter how they passed on and at what age. See the collective evidence for life after death in these articles:
#1 Scientific Evidence That Bodily Death Is NOT the End of Life
#60 Clinical Evidence That Life Continues After Physical Death
#115 Firsthand Experience Evidence for Life After Death
Their love, energy, sense of humor, memories, personality, and much more continue in the next phase of forever. We know this is true through scientific study of postmaterial (the so-called 'deceased') people and clinical data from near-death experiences, life between lives sessions, and evidential medium reports.
3. They are happy, peaceful, loving, and enthusiastic – and want you to be the same. Read article #2 When a Child Changes Worlds to learn how you can do that.
4. You will see them when you pass on and can enjoy a different kind of relationship now. To learn more, see article #9 Visit With ‘Departed’ Loved Ones Now and #28 Afterlife Contacts. Then use the free Afterlife Contact Session audio program at Shop.
5. You can choose daily to transmute your grief into a spiritually transformative experience that powerfully improves your life and blesses others. To learn how, see article #82 Greater Reality Healing: A Higher-Energy Path After Big Changes / Losses and watch my videos at Greater Reality Healing.
6. You can heal yourself and create more meaning to your child's life by helping others. Also, consider the possibility that your and your child's souls / consciousness volunteered to take part in a meta-plan as described in article #119 Helping Yourself, Others, and Our World.
After a child transitions from earth, family members understandably feel much pain, sadness, anger, guilt, and other lower-energy emotions. No one could or should ever judge you about that. However, many people have learned to regularly use the above keys to feel more peace, joy, love, and gratitude. To learn more, see article #108 Higher Energies, Emotions, and Ways of Being.
You can do the same. It’s not easy and it usually doesn’t happen overnight, but it is possible via daily small steps using those keys and the following seven action steps . . .
- Attend online HPH meetings shown at Calendar and attend local Affiliate Groups. (If there's not an in-person group nearby, consider starting one.)
- Use Special Interest Groups that offer more focused service for fathers, siblings, parents of children who passed by suicide or substance abuse, and more.
- Contact one or more Caring Listeners who talk with you at no charge. These volunteers are not trained therapists; they have been through 'the dark night of the soul' and will share worked for them, recommended resources, and more.
- Benefit from my FREE articles, radio shows, newsletters, books, audio programs, and documentary film at SoulProof.com/Articles / Radio Shows / Shop)
- Watch Affiliate Leader / Caring Listen Interviews, read the Shining Light Parents Speak book, and benefit from other HPH Shining Light Resources
- Optimally heal, live, and help via the Greater Reality Healing, Living & Helping articles, videos, and meetings (article #131). This program does NOT replace HPH; however, it does help you with other types of big changes and challenges that appear to be losses.
- Lean on others and ask for help when you need it. Later, when you are doing better, you can help others by sharing your greatest gifts and following your inner callings.

Q: My son Greg transitioned in 2024. I find great comfort knowing he is at peace in the afterlife after struggling for many years with addiction issues. I wonder about my family members in the afterlife and if there is any acknowledgement by them of his early transition at age 36. Would they have any emotions about this? I am curious to know if his young age would be viewed by them or is it irrelevant in the spirit world?
A: Reactions of family members who have already transitioned will vary depending on their level of soul development, how long they've been back Home, etc. In general, they understand that souls return to The Really Real Place / Heaven when it's time. They know you understandably feel sadness and are rooting for you to see more of life's big picture.
They likely are at least secondary or tertiary soulmates with Greg so, quite likely, greeted him after he changed worlds and participated in his welcome party. Their emotions are more balanced since they aren't swayed by a human brain, hormones, misinformation, needless fears, etc. They also know that, although Greg was only 36, he may be quite old in soul years. As such, his younger earthly age isn't a big deal to them.
I wonder if, behind your question, there might be some guilt and embarrassment. If so, that is very common – especially when addiction issues were involved. The self-judgment might 'Did I disappoint my ancestors by not being a better mom and preventing / solving his addictions?' As I hope you know, no parent has the power to control an outcome. Greg was AND is, as we all are, an eternal soul whose soul agendas aren't fathomable from a limited human perspective. Your loved ones in the next phase of life don't judge you and I hope you don't judge yourself.
Three ways you can get more insight about this include . . .
- read article #71 Ask Your Soul, Angels, and The Light at SoulProof.com/Articles. Then use that audio program that's free under Shop to discern wisdom from your soul and spiritual support team. Before the session, set an intention / say a prayer to better understand any questions you have.
- A month later, read article #9 Visit with Your ‘Departed’ Loved Ones NOW, then use the Afterlife Contact Technique under Shop. This allows you to develop real-time communication with Greg so you can ask him and continue a different but very meaningful relationship.
- Use the Pre-Birth Planning Technique to explore whether your souls chose the possibility of his relatively short earthly experience and, if so, why. What were your goals and, given this knowledge, how can you fulfill your soul's missions more completely?
Let me know if you have any other questions or concerns after using the above approaches for 60 days. To you, and all parents, please feel free to email me at mark@soulproof.com if you have any big questions and/or tough challenges about this or any other topic.
BIG hugs, love, blessings, and let it shine!
