It was 4:55 PM Pacific Time when I felt this sudden urge to sign up for the Gallery Reading with Kathi Behrens. So I signed up and hopped right in.
The second spirit to come forward was a young boy. Kathi described him riding ATVs, showing her sunflowers, loving the outdoors, mentioning the name Mason, liking big trucks, and showing her some sort of police or firefighter outfit. She also said he was helpful and known for his smile.
Every bit of that was my sweet Waylon.
For Christmas 2025, we gave Waylon a STACYC, which is a little electric dirt bike for young children. Before that, he had an electric quad. He was so good at riding them, and he absolutely loved it!
The sunflowers: Shortly after Waylon's passing, I had a healing session during which the healer told me that Waylon was showing her sunflowers. She happened to have some sunflower starts and gave me a whole bunch. I planted them all around our house, and they grew into the biggest, most beautiful sunflowers. We also sang "You Are My Sunshine" every night, so perhaps that was part of the connection, too.
The trucks and firefighter outfit: Waylon absolutely loved monster trucks! His dad owns a truck, although not a particularly big one, but monster trucks were his favorite. He also LOVED firetrucks and firefighters. We took him to several fire stations for tours, and I have so many photos of him sitting in the trucks. For his last Halloween, he dressed up as a firefighter.
Kathi also mentioned how helpful and sweet he was, and that was exactly Waylon. He would do anything you asked of him, but he especially loved helping younger children. Even though he was only three, he would hold their hands and help them down steps or stairs. He was such an absolute sweetheart.
His smile: Kathi mentioned that he was known for his smile and that he sometimes smiled in a funny way. Waylon had the most beautiful smile, even with his chipped tooth! When he would say "cheeeeeese," he would lift his top lip and roll it under, making the funniest little face. It was adorable.
The name Mason: Mason is one of Waylon's best friends. I actually walk with Mason's mom, along with the mom of another of Waylon's best friends, every week. They have some of Waylon's clothes and toys, too. Later in the reading, Kathi acknowledged that Waylon knew they had his things, enjoyed watching them play with his toys, and was happy they were being used.
The buzz cut: Kathi also brought up a buzz cut. That could have referred to my husband, but it could also have been Waylon. Sometimes the sides of his hair were cut pretty short because I used his dad's personal shaver to trim his hair.
"Thank you for hugging and holding me the whole time."
This was especially meaningful.
Waylon loved being held and carried, particularly when he wasn't feeling well. Throughout his time in the hospital, I hugged and held him as much as I possibly could. And after his passing, I held him for several hours.
Hearing those words meant so much to me.
His toys: Waylon showed Kathi that his toys were still perfectly placed, just as he had left them. And they are. His room is basically the same as it was, with his toys still in their places. We haven't gotten rid of anything, except for a few toys that we gave to his best friends. Everything else has its place, just the way we liked it.
The road trip: Kathi then brought up a family road trip. At first, I thought it could have been the trip we took just before Waylon's passing or the one afterward, when we traveled 4,000 miles in 15 days.
Kathi clarified that it was the trip afterward. She even saw him being seatbelted into the car!
We had placed Waylon's ashes inside a giant stuffed cat, and we would either buckle it into a seat or have it sitting beside us. Most of the time, though, he rode on my lap during the trip.
"Ready, set, go!"
This is one of my absolute favorite memories.
Waylon and I used to walk together every day along our road. He loved walking, and then running, along the side where there was a mound of dirt. I even have a video of him saying "Ready, set, go!" Or sometimes he would count, "One, two, three, go!"
Then we would take off racing, and of course, I always let him win.
Kathi said he was excited about how fast he could run now. That made me smile.
The chocolate birthday cake: Waylon brought up chocolate cake and cupcakes for his birthday. Kathi described him eating only a tiny bit of the actual cake but licking the frosting from his fingers.
I had actually been looking at a photo of his last birthday earlier that very day, remembering what a wonderful day it had been. And oh, how that little boy loved his chocolate frosting!
His love of water: Kathi mentioned how much Waylon loved water, which he did, most of the time! He especially loved bath time.
Then he told her to tell me to get back to the water. To go to the water.
I've always felt a connection to water and being near it. Other healers have encouraged me to spend time by the water as well, but I haven't followed through.
I think it's time to listen.
Counting on his toes: Kathi mentioned counting on Waylon's toes, which initially seemed funny because we always counted on his fingers.
But just the night before, or perhaps two nights earlier, I had been remembering his little toes and giggling to myself. He had his dad's funny toes and toenails, but oh, how I loved those little feet!
And I especially loved hearing him count, "One, two, free!"
Our soul connection: Finally, Kathi said Waylon wanted me to know that we have a very strong connection, almost like a soul connection. He wanted me to know that I really do feel him and that I shouldn't doubt it.
And we absolutely do have that connection.
I talk to Waylon all day long. I feel tingles and little nudges, just like the one that prompted me to join tonight's reading. Sometimes I hear guidance in my head, too.
I do occasionally doubt myself, but I'm going to work on trusting those feelings and listening more closely.
I am so incredibly grateful for these beautiful messages and for the reassurance that my sweet boy is still right here with me.
With all my love to my sweet son, Waylon, and heartfelt thanks to Kathi for bringing through such precious messages from him.
