I decided to join the gallery reading with Beth Lynch the morning of the event. Something—or rather, someone—was pushing me to join.
My son, Waylon, was three when he transitioned in April. He was the light of my life, and I have been feeling particularly in the darkness these past few weeks.
Throughout Beth’s readings, there were many little waves from my boy, piggybacking on messages for others. She mentioned a peach tree, and I am currently working on getting a fruit cocktail tree—with peaches on it—as a memorial tree for Waylon. She also mentioned something being masterfully sewn. At this very moment, Waylon’s clothes are with a master quilter in Portland, being sewn into a beautiful quilt for me. There were several other little validations as well, and I knew he was saying, “Hi, Mom.”
Then Beth mentioned a cowboy hat, the rodeo, and horses riding around. Waylon had a cowboy hat. He didn’t particularly love wearing it and didn’t have many opportunities to, but I’m sure he would have grown into a little cowboy. We took him to the rodeo whenever it came to town, and we also took him to horse shows. We had horses of our own, and Waylon loved spending time with them. I have photos of him riding the horses, helping clean the stalls, and talking to them.
The rodeo reference was especially meaningful because it may also have been connected to Waylon’s transition. He contracted E. coli, which developed into HUS and ultimately caused his passing.
I had been hoping that my older horse, who is also in spirit, was with Waylon. Beth described seeing a horse down and unable to get up. That was exactly why we ultimately had to put my older horse down—because of his age, he could no longer get up on his own. It brought me such relief to feel that perhaps they were together.
Beth also mentioned back discomfort. At first, I thought about the discomfort Waylon experienced during his ten days in the hospital, but then I remembered that HUS affected his kidneys and that he had to be on constant dialysis. She also mentioned a knee—either his or mine. Waylon’s knees were always scraped up because he was such a boy’s boy, constantly running around and enjoying life. But Beth felt it was more likely connected to me, and I do have a “bum” left knee that has bothered me on and off for years.
Then came celery juice! Beth said she hadn’t brought up celery juice in 30 years of readings, which made me laugh. Just two weeks earlier, during an energy code session, we had discussed ways of supporting my health, and one of the suggestions was to add celery juice to my morning routine.
Finally, Beth talked about writing a book—or perhaps a book I was reading—and specifically mentioned the title. I have been told before that I should write a book because my life has held its share of difficult experiences, yet I have always managed to remain positive. This time has certainly tested that positivity. I also read books about children in spirit and psychic development, so I’m still discovering exactly what that message means. Perhaps someday it will even become the title of my own book.
Another beautiful part of the reading involved Yen, another mom on the call whose young daughter, Mia, is in spirit. Some of the same messages—the cowboy hat and writing a book—resonated with her as well. To me, it felt as though our children were showing us that they are friends there, supporting one another just as we are supporting one another here.
And then came one of the sweetest validations of all. Beth said, “Mom, I love you.” Other children had come through saying “Mommy,” but Waylon always called me “Mom,” even though he was so young. That was my boy.
Thank you, Beth, Elizabeth, and Irene. And, of course, thank you to Waylon, the love of my life. I felt you saying, “Hi, Mom,” and I love you with all my heart.
With all my love,
~Jennifer Wright
